The Visual Arts Certificate Program at Santa Catalina is a certificate program that guides students through a comprehensive, multi-year curriculum, enabling them to expand and refine each student's artistic repertoire. Each student develops a portfolio that can be used for college admission and future interviews. The program also requires students to visit museums and galleries, interview professional artists, and submit their work to competitions. Students can apply for this program at the end of tenth grade.

Students share their work with classmates through local exhibitions and national competitions, and with the broader art world. Three exhibitions are held annually in the library gallery, showcasing a variety of works by students at different levels. In addition, students often receive national academic art and writing awards, and participate in local competitions such as the Weston Portfolio Black and White Film Photography Competition.

By visiting the Monterey Museum of Art, the Carmel Art Association, the Carl Cherry Art Center, and other museums and galleries, students are not only exposed to the works of professional artists but also gain an initial understanding of curation and exhibition. Students also have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and amazing private collections.
