Virginia Episcopal School was founded in 1916 and is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. The school covers an area of over 160 acres, nestled between the James River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is only an hour and a half drive from Charlottesville, the city where the University of Virginia is located, and three hours from Washington D.C. The boarding student ratio is 70%.
The school offers 22 AP courses, encompassing grades 9-12, with nearly 240 students. A distinctive feature of the school's curriculum is the Science and Math Research Consortium, a year-long advanced academic program considered a core academic course, with mathematics and science each accounting for 0.5 credits. This program involves rigorous interdisciplinary learning in a collaborative and project-based environment, adopting a student-led format that emphasizes student design thinking, with final outcomes presented to the school community. The school offers a variety of enriching learning programs, utilizes small class sizes, and encourages students to participate in all on-campus extracurricular activities. School facilities include academic buildings, science labs, a library, dormitories, an arts center, a student activity center, a chapel, a bookstore, and extensive sports facilities (gymnasium, cross-country course, tennis courts, baseball fields, softball fields, basketball courts, golf course, etc.). Although the school is small in scale, it boasts a very harmonious atmosphere and places great emphasis on rigorous academic training and the cultivation of noble character and moral values in its students.
