The school cares a lot about the children. The head of the international program is Chinese, so communication is very smooth. Dormitory facilities are good. There have been quite a few Chinese students admitted in the past two years, and their post-graduation prospects are excellent, with students going to Harvard, UPenn, and UCs. Club activities are rich and varied. Safety is very high. The academic level is moderate, but if you want to push yourself, there are plenty of AP courses. Sports activities are also diverse, so everyone can find a suitable program.

The school's music program offers students opportunities for both formal and informal participation. Students can join student-led a cappella groups or participate in concert bands. In addition, to improve their skills and proficiency, many students take weekly private instrumental or vocal lessons with accomplished instructors. Students interested in music have access to acoustically enhanced practice studios and at least 10 pianos on campus for practice and recreation. Westminster's 'Friday Night' reading series began in 2009-2010, held six times a year (twice per semester). Writers are invited to the school to hold reading sessions in the library on Friday evenings, and then return to the school on Saturday mornings to teach English classes. Notable participants include poets, essayists, novelists, jazz musicians, and singer-songwriters. What makes the 'Friday Night' reading series special is that the evening always begins with a reading by a student or a teacher. This demonstrates the school's strong academic atmosphere in the humanities.

### Overall Situation:
- Academically strong, with humanities being relatively stronger.
- Offers a wide range of course selection options for younger students; students can start taking AP courses from 10th grade, especially AP English and European History, which are significant challenges. When selecting courses, students should carefully evaluate their abilities and choose within their capacity, otherwise, it might easily affect their GPA.

### Academic Strengths/Features:
- English is particularly outstanding. Compared to other schools, English classes place a special emphasis on the study of poetry. The school hosts the Westminster Poetry Series, a poetry event that invites many poets to share their works with students.

### Shangxue Mingde Student Feedback:
- The school's humanities courses are very strong but also quite challenging. Maintaining a good GPA requires a lot of effort, and writing is extremely important.

Westminster School boasts an excellent location on Williams Hill, with a 200-acre campus offering views of the Farmington Valley. Students can walk to the town of Simsbury. The school's educational philosophy is unique: to cultivate students with resilient character and elegant minds. It encourages students to strive for high goals in academics, sports, and community engagement, while also focusing on fostering graceful manners, mature thinking, and a strong sense of responsibility. The Armour Academic Center, completed in 2009, features humanities classrooms on one side and science classrooms on the other, also housing a library, a planetarium, and laboratories. The planetarium and astronomy courses are a distinctive program at the school, where students can learn astronomy with teachers and observe the night sky.
The dormitory buildings are very beautiful, with very new interior facilities. All 9th-grade new students are arranged in double rooms to help them integrate, and starting from their second year, they can freely choose between double or triple rooms.

1. WISE Program (Westminster Interactive Summer Experience) online summer learning
This online summer learning program is divided into two sessions, each lasting two weeks, held in June and July.
Online courses include a wide range of subjects: from the study of the Vietnam War to literary algebra, from Spanish and history to technology and computer science. These courses are designed to prepare students for the upcoming academic year, stimulate their curiosity, and develop their learning skills, which will be beneficial for their future academic pursuits.
2. The school places a strong emphasis on the study of poetry. Every spring, the English department invites a prominent poet to visit the school for two to three days to study poetry books with students and share poetry culture.
3. All 10th and 11th-grade students who choose AP courses are required to take the AP exams for their chosen subjects. 12th-grade students may discuss with their AP teachers the option of not taking the AP exams.
4. Westminster students like to call each other "Westy." Although it might appear to be an aloof aristocratic school, it's actually filled with a group of fun-loving students. It's a very warm community.
