Founded in 1796, Oakwood is one of the oldest co-ed boarding schools in America and the first private high school in New York State. International students have long benefitted from Oakwood’s challenging college-preparatory curriculum, AP, and ESL courses. Traditional Quaker values of equality, acceptance, and respect for every individual are woven into the curriculum. With a good variety of elective courses and extra-curricular offerings, students are encouraged to try new things, be creative, find their passions, and become well-rounded graduates. The diverse community places high standards of academic achievement, but also makes sure students develop into good people. In the picturesque Hudson Valley, midway between NYC and Albany, Oakwood offers small classes, individual attention, an academic support center, college counseling/placement, community service, and an inclusive sports program. Small class sizes allow for teachers and dorm parents to connect, nurture, and support students as they grow. Advisers meet with students weekly to offer personal direction and guidance. Because of the school’s great location, many student trips are possible taking advantage of both the rich history and beauty of the Hudson Valley and the proximity of New York City.

Oakwood Friends School, founded in 1796, is one of the oldest boarding schools and Quaker schools in New York State. Located in eastern New York, the school spans 63 acres and is equipped with a large number of advanced facilities and numerous sports fields. Despite shops and restaurants being nearby, the school maintains a pastoral living and learning environment. It is 2 hours from New York City and 1.5 hours from Albany. The school management is very strict, and we have students attending.

School Advantages:

1. As a Christian Quaker school, it teaches students inclusivity, equality, and respect for everyone, based on Christian values.
2. Small class sizes ensure a very high level of teacher attention to students.
3. Provides students with a rich array of art programs, including visual arts, music, and drama. Two graduates from the Class of 2018 were admitted to Parsons School of Design, a top art university.
4. Offers 8 AP courses, emphasizing college preparatory curricula and after-school tutoring.
5. Achieves a 100% college acceptance rate, with notable university admissions including the University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, and others.

Although this school is not highly ranked, students wishing to enter it must first consider their own academic performance. I have asked several students studying there, and judging by their grades and university admission results, they are all quite good. It's incomparable to top-tier schools, because students who can enter top-tier schools can directly get into Ivy League universities, whereas students who enter this school generally have weaker English skills. Objectively speaking, this school is still good; it can help cultivate students with less-than-stellar academic records to get into relatively ideal universities, which is a testament to its educational success.
