The girls' varsity team competes against some of the best teams in the highly competitive New England Independent School League. In recent years, Pomfret players have gone on to play squash at university programs such as Bates, Mount Holyoke, Dickinson, Georgetown, Columbia, UCLA, and Northwestern. The coaches believe in developing athletes into well-rounded individuals, so in addition to strength, endurance, agility, and coordination, mental toughness and a strong work ethic are also emphasized. Players work hard both as individuals and as a team.

Few schools can compare to the squash facilities at the Corzine Center. Pomfret is regarded as a premier tournament venue in New England, and since its opening in 2003, the Pomfret Center has hosted eight New England “B” and “C” level championships for both boys and girls.

The number of teachers and students is small, and most reside on campus, fostering close teacher-student relationships. Teachers can provide immediate assistance to students at any time. The school maintains very high standards for its curriculum.

 School Features
1. There are 62 buildings on campus.
2. Graduates have good prospects, with many attending schools in Boston.
3. Many courses are designed to teach students how to give back to society and the concept of lifelong learning.
4. The Rectory School, a boarding school, is right next door, and they share campus resources.
5. The school facilities are very comprehensive, including a student-run radio station, a publishing house, and a very large fitness center.
6. The school is located in Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. Hartford is also known as the "Insurance City," regarded by most insurance industries worldwide and in the US as a primary battleground and a major hub for the insurance business.

Pomfret School is a top boarding school located in Connecticut. The school offers a three-dimensional curriculum encompassing academics, athletics, and arts, providing students with a great deal of choice.

The school's most significant academic feature is its strong emphasis on interaction between teachers and students during class, as well as discussions among students. Basically, all humanities classes and some science classes are conducted with students seated in a circle or rectangle.
Last year, the school phased out AP courses, replacing them with Advanced Courses that offer more flexible teaching and broader study scope. While the difficulty level of the courses remains comparable, it will significantly increase the challenge for students planning to take many AP exams. The school's arts programs are very distinctive. Other sports offerings are similar to most American high schools, with the exception of not having swimming.

During the summer, new students can apply for Advanced or Honors courses to various Academic Departments based on their academic level. Before approval, teachers typically require students to complete a short quiz to test whether their proficiency meets the standards for more advanced courses.

The school places a strong emphasis on fostering a sense of community. Each year, various activities, such as sports festivals, are held to strengthen the community atmosphere within the school. All clubs are spontaneously organized and run by students based on their interests.

Additional points:

3. Grauer is Pomfret's academic engine: The school's vision for curriculum reform rivals that of the newest and most innovative schools nationally. The Grauer Family Institute for Excellence and Innovation in Education, generously established by former Board Chair Peter Grauer and his wife, Laurie, is a thought leader in secondary education. The Institute provides teachers with extensive resources to experiment with emerging pedagogical approaches and pursue ongoing professional development, enabling them to design and deliver innovative curricula both inside and outside the classroom.

4. Rich school facilities and resources: There are observatory facilities, art studios, digital art labs; a black box theater, rehearsal rooms, workshop operation rooms, and an eco-friendly greenhouse.

5. Solar Greenhouse: The Apollo Greenhouse can grow anything from lettuce and tomatoes to strawberries. It allows students and supporters to plant and care for crops together, strengthening community ties.

Pomfret currently has an international student ratio of 20%. The school offers a rich array of sports activities, with 42 sports teams and over 30 sports competitions weekly. Students can participate in various extracurricular activities such as outdoor adventures, yoga, drama performances, and community events. The school provides 150 courses, including 42 AP and honors courses. 9th and 10th-grade students are required to take three core courses: Humanities, Arts, and Science. In 2017, the school reformed these three core courses: Humanities now combines English and Global Studies, Science shifted from a physics-centric approach to an engineering-centric one, and Arts integrates multiple art forms. This reform aims to help students develop interdisciplinary learning abilities and lay a solid foundation for course selection in upper grades. Additionally, a one-semester health course was added for 10th graders, covering social topics, interpersonal relationships, and substance abuse, which the school believes are crucial for growing students. Beyond these three core courses, 9th and 10th-grade students can also choose subjects of interest from a wide range of offerings. To provide more support to students, Pomfret has a "Mentoring Program" where a few students are assigned to any teacher who acts as their mentor, helping them with issues encountered in course selection, academics, and extracurricular activities. Students have two opportunities each week to meet with their mentor teacher. They can confide in their teacher about any difficulties they face in their studies and life, and the teacher is willing to help them to the best of their ability, resulting in very harmonious student-teacher relationships at Pomfret.
