Founded in 1894, Pomfret School is located in the small town of Pomfret in northeastern Connecticut, USA, less than an hour from Boston, Hartford, and Providence. The campus covers 500 acres and was designed by the world-renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
The school features a century-old academic and arts center, a sports center, an ice rink, a tennis center, an observatory, and other activity venues and facilities. With 42 sports teams participating in 15 different sports, students can engage in a variety of club activities. There is also an environmentally friendly Greenhouse solar greenhouse used to grow various crops, allowing students to sow and care for crops together, strengthening community ties.
The school offers a total of 42 AP and Honors courses. QUEST (Question - Understand - Engage - Share - Transition) is the cornerstone of the student life curriculum. As an important complement to classroom learning, this signature program provides students with the skills, values, philosophies, and habits of mind needed to thrive and develop in an ever-changing world. Students meet regularly by grade level for symposia, presentations, and small group discussions. Headmaster Zhan's Review: Pomfret achieves an excellent balance of arts, athletics, and academics, boasting a unique curriculum, particularly with projects focused on independent study and community service. The school offers children a wide range of subject choices and abundant project opportunities, providing students with limitless possibilities, standing out especially in academic success and social engagement.
In terms of cultural heritage, Pomfret is a diverse and open school. Whether in sports, arts, academics, or activities, the school offers children rich choices and ample space.
Regarding academic development, the school provides extensive courses across various disciplines. It also works closely with students to ensure that workloads are manageable and scheduling truly meets student needs. The school revised its student timetable in 2023; when students find their homework burden higher than before, students and teachers will meet to make adjustments, allowing students to maintain their academic edge without sacrificing time for arts and athletics.
In community building, Pomfret initially garners attention from faculty and students for its world-class education, but they stay because of its family-like warmth and care. At Pomfret, classmates become siblings, teachers become parents, and dormitories become home.
For emotional support, a professional team comprising doctors, nurses, and counselors works collaboratively to provide students with preventative care, comprehensive treatment options, and social-emotional guidance, ensuring their campus life remains happy and healthy.
