The top private school on the "island" is located in Newport, a former summer retreat for European aristocrats. Its proximity to the Atlantic allows many students to participate in surfing. St. George's classrooms aim to achieve transformation, and academic programs are designed to help students increase knowledge and master skills, supporting the growth of every student. By combining specific subject knowledge with the comprehensive thinking skills emphasized in the curriculum, St. George hopes that the classroom will enrich students' lives, provide them with abundant experiences, and inspire their love for lifelong learning. One of the school's signature programs is its long voyage. Geronimo is an experiential marine science course that has been offered since 1974. It is also a 22-meter long sailboat that can accommodate 8 students and 3 crew members. The school offers 7-9 long voyage opportunities each year, with each voyage lasting 1 to 6 weeks. Geronimo has traveled to the Caribbean and Mediterranean countries/regions. During the voyage, student crew members will learn and master navigational skills. They will also develop leadership and teamwork abilities, and gradually take on more responsibilities in the operation of Geronimo. It's a pity that every time I visited the school, the ship was on a mission, so I never got to see it. For new students, the school offers the ACES! program, a 6-week course designed to help freshmen adapt to academics and campus life.

St. George's School, founded in 1896, is a top high school in Rhode Island and a private institution with an Episcopalian tradition. Of the 160 students in the graduating class of 2019, 773 admission letters were received from 142 universities worldwide, including 21 from Ivy League universities in the United States, earning this prestigious school the reputation of being a "cradle of Ivy League students."

The campus features Gothic architecture. Due to its seaside location, the school has offered a unique and excellent Geronimo ocean sailing program since 1974. This 4-6 week program allows students to sail from Rhode Island to the Bahamas. The school provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, maintains a strict academic atmosphere, sets high expectations for students, and employs a small-class, round-table teaching method that encourages classroom discussion.

Unlike other middle and high schools, the curriculum at St. George's is not based on grade level and age but is designed by the dean according to academic proficiency. This allows each student to set their own goals for the next academic year and subsequent years, helping them learn to make choices and discover and explore their unique talents early on. From 6th grade, each student is assigned a dedicated mentor responsible for monitoring their academic progress and overseeing their studies.

First-hand information: Just finished visiting the school. This year, there are 5-6 spots available for Chinese students, including those from Taiwan and Hong Kong.

St. George's School has established the Rogers Scholars Program, through which students typically gain exclusive access to the White House, the Pentagon and offices of the U.S. Armed Forces, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The program's mission is to enable students to meet with federal legislators, policy experts, fundraisers, senior advisors, pollsters, campaign strategists, and lobbyists, experiencing firsthand how public policy and politics interact and influence daily life. St. George's School's art resources serve various categories of students. For experienced art students, St. George's School, with its studios located in the Drury/Grosvenor Art Center, is like another home when a creative storm strikes. For students new to art, an introductory course might spark a new passion, or simply visiting a great museum can provide an initial understanding of art in a more enlightened way. Regardless of their stage, our students can find art programs that suit their ideal goals and interests. The Advanced Studio Art Portfolio courses are designed to foster the development of a structurally cohesive body of work in accordance with university admissions guidelines. The expectations for these courses are rigorous, and the technical skills acquired by student artists during a year of practice are often exceptional.

Graduates have successfully entered top institutions such as Princeton University, Harvard University, MIT, and Yale University. [Featured Program: "Geronimo" Marine Science Practice] Geronimo is St. George's second vessel, specifically built for student marine science practice. This year, students will arrive in the Bahamas to collect data on turtles, which will then be sent to various universities for biological science research. Onboard, students must learn self-management, such as cooking, cleaning, and taking turns on duty. Students can participate in 6-7 marine projects annually, and their participation experience is exceptionally good and unforgettable.
The application competition for St. George's is also very fierce; the class of 2021 received over 1000 applications, including local American students, with an acceptance rate of approximately 18%, and an international student acceptance rate of about 10%.

Since 1974, St. George's School has offered an experiential marine science program designed to foster leadership and seamanship skills aboard the school's 70-foot sailboat, "Geronimo."

Students sailing on board are formally part of the crew (8 student crew members and 3 professional crew members), fully participating in the operation and maintenance of the vessel. All crew members stand watch, take the helm, handle sails, cook, and clean.

During the voyage, students will learn and develop nautical and navigation skills. They will also develop leadership and teamwork skills, progressively taking on more responsibility in the operation of the Geronimo program.

I think my decision to choose SG in '19 was a great one, it was the best fit for me. Firstly, I feel that the school's community is small and welcoming, so by your second year, you'll be familiar with most people (provided you actively participate in various activities). Everyone I know is very friendly, and we're always laughing and cheerful in the dorms (we even play hockey in the common room), this kind of environment makes me motivated to go to school every day.
The school's academics are quite strong, and I feel that all my teachers are particularly responsible. Teachers provide many references on Canvas, so I can easily review in my dorm. If you need additional help, because the school has fewer students, it's easy to schedule a meeting with a teacher to assist you. I feel the academic pressure at school is quite high, especially if you have many extracurriculars; it's a very fulfilling Monday to Saturday, then you get a bit of rest on Sunday (you can go to the beach because SG is by the sea), and then you have to do homework in the evening. If you have many humanities courses, you'll have almost endless writing assignments of all sizes, so I think my writing skills have improved a lot compared to before I came to American high school.
Overall, I still really enjoy studying at school; after two weeks of vacation, I already want to go back to school :) I hope my review can help this year's incoming freshmen and sophomores.

St George is located in the beautiful town of New Port on Rhode Island. Many buildings on campus feature a church-like architectural style. Due to the school's coastal location, there are many water sports available. The school's sailing program is particularly renowned; it lasts 4-6 weeks and combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, significantly enhancing students' leadership and teamwork skills. According to students already enrolled, at St George, they not only experience rigorous academic demands but also improve their self-expression and debating skills, helping them discover themselves and grow considerably.

Regarding admissions, the school admits approximately 5 Chinese students each year, making the admission process quite competitive. The school prefers students who are confident and articulate.

### Overall Situation:
- The school does not offer AP courses, but its advanced-level courses are close in difficulty to AP. Many Chinese students also take AP exams after completing these advanced courses.
- In the 2020 academic year, the school merged 9th-grade history and English into a humanities course, comprehensively studying literature, history, politics, economics, and culture. This poses a relatively significant challenge for Chinese students.

### Academic Strengths/Features:
- Geronimo/Marine Science Program: Geronimo is the name of the school's boat and also an inshore marine science program. Interested students can apply for one of the four trips offered in fall, winter, spring, or summer. Each trip typically involves scientific research tasks.
- Connected Learning: Interdisciplinary courses in different fields, such as engineering principles combining art and science, train students' interdisciplinary thinking.

### Shangxue Mingde Student Feedback:
- The 11th-grade American Studies course, which integrates English and history, is highly recommended as it particularly develops students' interdisciplinary thinking and abilities.
- Marine biology is very interesting because it's combined with the marine science program. It's not just about learning textbook knowledge in school, but also involves many field trips and experiments.
