Founded in 1896 as an Episcopal boarding school by the Rev. John Byron Diman, St. George’s today lives firmly in the 21st century, with state-of-the-art academic and athletic facilities, and an innovative curriculum that prepares students to become the thoughtful, compassionate leaders and doers the world needs most. A community drawn from a wide range of traditions and backgrounds in the U.S. and around the world, our school provides opportunities for students to deepen their intellectual curiosity and develop their distinctive talents — whether sequencing DNA in a lab, composing music in the arts center, scoring a goal on the athletic fields, navigating by starlight on Geronimo, or learning beyond campus in one of our unique connected-learning programs in places like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. St. George’s School continues to fulfill its mission through enrolling a diverse, academically talented, and well-rounded student body guided by educators committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment. True to our Episcopal heritage, we welcome students, faculty, and staff of all faiths to a community guided by core values: respect for each individual, personal integrity, and service to others.

The top private school on the "island" is located in Newport, a former summer retreat for European aristocrats. Its proximity to the Atlantic allows many students to participate in surfing. St. George's classrooms aim to achieve transformation, and academic programs are designed to help students increase knowledge and master skills, supporting the growth of every student. By combining specific subject knowledge with the comprehensive thinking skills emphasized in the curriculum, St. George hopes that the classroom will enrich students' lives, provide them with abundant experiences, and inspire their love for lifelong learning. One of the school's signature programs is its long voyage. Geronimo is an experiential marine science course that has been offered since 1974. It is also a 22-meter long sailboat that can accommodate 8 students and 3 crew members. The school offers 7-9 long voyage opportunities each year, with each voyage lasting 1 to 6 weeks. Geronimo has traveled to the Caribbean and Mediterranean countries/regions. During the voyage, student crew members will learn and master navigational skills. They will also develop leadership and teamwork abilities, and gradually take on more responsibilities in the operation of Geronimo. It's a pity that every time I visited the school, the ship was on a mission, so I never got to see it. For new students, the school offers the ACES! program, a 6-week course designed to help freshmen adapt to academics and campus life.

St. George's School, founded in 1896, is a top high school in Rhode Island and a private institution with an Episcopalian tradition. Of the 160 students in the graduating class of 2019, 773 admission letters were received from 142 universities worldwide, including 21 from Ivy League universities in the United States, earning this prestigious school the reputation of being a "cradle of Ivy League students."

The campus features Gothic architecture. Due to its seaside location, the school has offered a unique and excellent Geronimo ocean sailing program since 1974. This 4-6 week program allows students to sail from Rhode Island to the Bahamas. The school provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, maintains a strict academic atmosphere, sets high expectations for students, and employs a small-class, round-table teaching method that encourages classroom discussion.

Unlike other middle and high schools, the curriculum at St. George's is not based on grade level and age but is designed by the dean according to academic proficiency. This allows each student to set their own goals for the next academic year and subsequent years, helping them learn to make choices and discover and explore their unique talents early on. From 6th grade, each student is assigned a dedicated mentor responsible for monitoring their academic progress and overseeing their studies.

First-hand information: Just finished visiting the school. This year, there are 5-6 spots available for Chinese students, including those from Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The school boasts unique resources in maritime navigation and marine conservation. Since 1974, St. George's School has offered an experiential marine science program where students embark on a 4-6 week sailing journey aboard the school's exclusive 70-foot sailboat, Geronimo. This program allows them to experience the joys and challenges of sailing. It's a combination of marine science curriculum, cultural immersion, sailing operations, and the development of leadership and teamwork skills.

The golf team is strong; St. George's golf team has a history of over 100 years. Today, the school's co-ed team competes in the prestigious Independent School League (ISL). The ISL league plays on some of New England's most distinguished courses, such as Kittansett Golf Club, Concord Country Club, and Dedham Country Club.

St. George's School has established the Rogers Scholars Program, through which students typically gain exclusive access to the White House, the Pentagon and offices of the U.S. Armed Forces, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The program's mission is to enable students to meet with federal legislators, policy experts, fundraisers, senior advisors, pollsters, campaign strategists, and lobbyists, experiencing firsthand how public policy and politics interact and influence daily life. Such experiences will inspire students to develop a lasting interest in public service and politics.
