Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Vermont Academy with student K for an interview. Vermont is beautiful, a winter skiing paradise, known as the 'Switzerland of North America'.
The school is located in a small town not far from the Green Mountain National Forest, covering an area of 450 acres. The school is well-equipped with educational facilities. ESL courses are offered on campus, with international students making up 22% of the population, and Chinese students accounting for 12%. The total student body is around 220, with small class sizes of approximately 10 students per class.
Every day, except holidays, lights are out at 10:30 PM and the internet is disconnected at 12:00 AM. Every student at the school participates in on-campus sports, such as basketball, soccer, horse riding, rugby, skiing, etc. The school's basketball and ice hockey teams are particularly strong. This year, one student was admitted to Harvard for their outstanding performance in basketball.
During the student interview session, the admissions officer asked some basic questions, such as the student's background, personal interests, and 'Why choose our school?' etc. Subsequently, the admissions officer had a long conversation with the parents.
Vermont Academy offers 120 courses, 24 AP and honors courses, and more than 20 sports. It is also a strong STEM school. Due to its continuously rising academic and athletic performance, it is considered a very promising school in recent years.
Vermont Academy is suitable for students with a moderate academic level to apply, and also serves as a safety school for top students. Additionally, we especially recommend this school to students who love skiing, basketball, ice hockey, and all winter sports.
