Lake Forest Academy, founded in 1857, is located in the affluent suburb of Lake Forest, over 30 miles north of Chicago, and is part of the greater Chicago area. It's only a 30-minute drive from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, making it easier for students to be admitted to prestigious Chicago-area universities like Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. It's suitable for students who want to avoid the fierce competition of high schools in the northeastern United States. The school's location is a National Historic Landmark. The campus covers 150 acres and is covered by forest. The boarding student ratio is 50%. The school offers 24 AP courses, 27 different sports programs, and over 60 different clubs. The school has established Global Programs, a two-year plan where courses allow all students the opportunity to further personalize and deepen their global education at the school. Examples include the Global Water Challenge course and the Exploration and Study of Global Happiness course. It also features a Seminar Program, which annually focuses on a core issue and provides opportunities to guide each student in developing insights into community engagement, leadership, health, and self. For instance, junior seminars encourage students to explore personal values; senior seminars focus on the college application process (first semester) and life after LFA (second semester).
