Review by Principal Zhan: NCS offers a co-educational boarding and day experience for students in grades 4-9. The school emphasizes combining traditional academics with practical experiential learning, utilizing its sprawling 220-acre campus to provide unique educational opportunities, including working on the farm, engaging in arts, and participating in outdoor activities.
The school is committed to small class sizes, with an average of 12 students per class and a student-to-teacher ratio of 3:1, ensuring personalized attention for each student.
In terms of cultural heritage, day students are also assigned to dormitories, and many school traditions and celebrations are organized around dorm teams. For example, at the Thanksgiving dinner, all students and faculty are seated by their assigned dormitories.
Regarding academic development, for students in grades 4-6, NCS provides opportunities for children to explore independently and engage in rich extracurricular activities. For grades 7-9, the school uses foundational exploratory courses to help students understand who they are and what kind of learners they aspire to be, thereby stimulating their intrinsic motivation.
For community building, dorm parents are the first adults children see in the morning and the last at night, creating a safe and comfortable community for them. All students participate in daily chores, ranging from assisting in the kitchen, caring for horses, harvesting on the farm, to cleaning classrooms, which serves as an excellent opportunity to practice life skills, integrate into the community, and cultivate a sense of responsibility.
In terms of emotional support, teachers are present to guard the children 24/7, and the warm campus atmosphere makes children very willing to share their troubles, challenges, interests, and dedication with their teachers.

The school adopts a House system. Students are organized into Houses, each with dedicated House parents responsible for their daily lives. Each House typically accommodates 8-12 students, fostering a strong family atmosphere where everyone tidies rooms, eats, and organizes activities together. Houses also frequently hold competitive events to build internal cohesion. This integration is a key focus of the school's education, especially beneficial for international students. At NCS, children have the space to realize their creativity and connect with nature. The school integrates education into every signature program, providing students with comprehensive practical experience, preparing them for middle school and university. Graduates of the school possess leadership skills, curiosity, and compassion. Due to the distinctive educational philosophy, they are recognized by many top American high schools, with good high school placement and an upward trend in recent years.

NCS was founded in 1938 and enjoys a high reputation among upper-class society in the United States. The famous Rockefeller family highly appreciates the school's philosophy, and many of their descendants have studied there. The school offers boarding education for grades 4-9, with its campus located in Lake Placid, near New York, covering an area of over 200 acres. The campus boasts picturesque scenery with lakes and mountains. It places great emphasis on outdoor activities, art, and community life, and most students live very happily. NCS is small, with a current student population of 79 and a student-teacher ratio of 3:1, thus providing students with an intimate campus atmosphere and teacher-student relationships akin to a family, which is one of the school's distinguishing features.

The school places great importance on art, bringing it into students' lives through courses such as drama, performing arts, music, visual arts, and culinary arts. Students attend at least one art class daily. Younger children rotate through a series of courses including music, drama, drawing, ceramics, fiber arts, photography, and woodworking, while students in grades 7, 8, and 9 choose from electives offering advanced studio art projects, such as documentary filmmaking and wooden boat restoration.
NCS provides students with various outdoor exploration opportunities, such as an outdoor science lab and rock climbing. As students hike, ski, climb mountains, paddle, and backpack through the wilderness, they will experience personal growth, develop their resilience, improve their skills in effective problem-solving and reciprocal communication, while also cultivating a deeper sense of self-awareness. The school engages students in farm and gardening work, transitioning them from being unfamiliar with nature to being closely connected with natural life.
